In the last blog post, we talked about the best Italian lingerie brands, talking about their strong points and weaknesses. This time, however, I would like to focus on Canadian companies. I picked 9 top Canadian lingerie brands, and below, I will compare what they offer to their customers. The common thread? All of these fashion houses have an eye on feeling comfortable.
The Best Canadian Lingerie Brands
Sokoloff
What will catch your eye is that all the featured pieces are elegant and that the color palette, at least in most of the cases, consists of just black, white, and nude tones. The most important feature of Sokoloff Lingerie, however, is that none of the bras are padded. Women that would like to highlight their breasts with the help of a classic push-up could be disappointed, but the reason is that Sokoloff wants to propose a more natural and comfortable kind of lingerie.
Generally, their designs are very romantic, and the patterns they choose are usually large floral lace decorations, but occasionally in lookbooks, you can find polka dots and cheetah textures. Since Sokoloff is a small company, they do not create graduated bras. However, to satisfy as many customers as possible, they built a partnership with Addition Elle, an inclusive brand that produces plus size lingerie.
Mary Young
If you are looking for comfortable basic pieces, this is the place. Born in 2014, this is a fresh brand founded by a very young (pun intended) fashion design student: Mary.
While in college, Mary noticed that what was missing in the underwear market were some essential pieces with no underwire, padding, or reshaping characteristics. So she decided to create a collection that respected women’s shape on her own, and when her initiative was applauded, she turned that idea into a business.
But who said that basic means boring? This company’s collections feature colorful organic bamboo essential pieces and semi-sheer bras and briefs to make women of all sizes feel sexy.
Mary Young lingerie is made to let the body move freely, so the garments you can find are soft cup bralettes, triangles, and sports bras. The materials used provide comfort as well: the largest part of Mary Young’s products are made of organic bamboo, soft mesh, and custom elastic.
Fortnight
Fortnight produces all its products in-house: all is managed at the headquarters from the sketch to the finished product. Plus, each piece is made by hand.
This brand has an eye on all kinds of body shapes: in Forthinght lookbooks, you can see slim figures and curvy ones, and each of them is connected to the type of product that can highlight that shape. An example? A skinny woman may need just a bandeau or a plunge bra, while a 40 DD cup breasts will need at least a balconette. If basic pieces are a no-go for you, you are spoiled for choice with the Fortnight collections. Shopping on the website, you can purchase nude color semi-sheer products, romantic lace top lingerie, or bras with colorful geometric patterns.
Sewn
Sewn is a more daring brand, with their sexy see-through bralettes. This company’s name suits the products: top and bottom lingerie pieces are entirely handmade, with a small team of artisans performing the work. Thus they create limited capsule collections.
When you see how detailed these products are, you will be astonished: If I have to describe this collection with one word, I would say that it is elusive. In the largest part of cases, bras and thongs are made of refined tulle embroidered with delicate fone sur tone flowers, while some other products are made of thin and precious lace. The color palette is elegant, utilizing pink, black, and nude tones.
What is surprising is that, even though products are handmade, Sewn lingerie is pretty cheap compared to other brands. The only defects? These bralettes have no underwire, and the materials will not provide support to larger breasts.
Rosalie Wynne
This brand is specialized in bralette production too. But there is a big difference with respect to what Sewn creates, as Rosalie Wynne features many more sizes; 40, to be precise, from 30 AA to 40 H.
It may seem exaggerated, but the company’s goal is to allow each woman to find lingerie pieces that can correctly adjust to her body. Their mission is not just finding a solution for all body shapes, but all ages too: in the lookbook, you can find both young and older women modeling.
To be as comfortable as possible, all bralettes are made with soft cups, and they have an elastic band at the bottom, while cups are made of elegant colorful lace. The semi-sheer effect is not very daring, but these materials provide each figure with a charming allure. Rosalie Wynne produces some briefs, too; in particular, they create high-waist and regular bottom lingerie.
Ellesmere
If I had to make categories for underwear types, I would place Ellesmere in voluptuous lingerie brands because of the quantity of mesh they make. Most of the pieces are semi-sheer and very seductive.
All of the Ellesmere bras are not padded, and the most recurrent types of top lingerie are bralettes, triangle bras, and balconettes. Even though all of them are soft cup models, just two are unstructured, while the balconette has an underwire.
Let’s speak about fabrics. Tulle is widely used, and it’s usually embroidered with small flower decorations (either tor sur tone and contrasting shades). In the lookbook, however, you can see lace and floral printed jersey too.
Briefs are as revealing as the top lingerie: most of them are made of mesh, and while the front is usually covered with flowers, the back is left bare. To make the outfits even more intriguing, Ellesmere completes them with embroidered garter belts.
Less is a’mor
Less is a’mor goes even further, adding to the classical weapon of seduction a touch of transgression. In particular, garters are the protagonist of this company’s collections. In many models, these accessories are mixed with bras creating new complex geometric shapes; in other outfits, the garters hug the hips or are crossed around the belly.
Less is a’mor wants to satisfy as many women as possible; thus, there are less revealing pieces in the shop: the collections include sports bras made of cotton or elegant top lingerie produced with satin fabric. Where mesh is not present, a large amount of lace decorates the borders of bras and briefs.
A product that differs from the briefs and bras collection is pajamas. Pajama sets are not revealing at all, as they are made of glossy and covering satin fabric. But, even though the materials are different, the seductive effect is still there.
Exes
Exes pieces are both revealing and playful. Most of them are made of mesh, but since the color palette is not the usual one, the effect is entirely different compared to other brands. Besides the classic white or black bra, you can find pink, yellow, lilac, and fuchsia.
And if you think that their products are sports bras decorated with Swarovski, you have the full picture. But when it comes to bottom lingerie and bodysuits, anyway, things differ. Their briefs are super high-cut, which means that they show off a lot more skin than usual.
Bodysuits win in the long run as the sexiest products; in the shop, there are criss-cross mesh leotards that highlight curves, backless models, and v plunge necklines. Of course, all of them are colorful and fully decorated with Swarovski elements.
Star Creations
Feeling comfortable does not just refer to how lingerie fits, but it’s about feeling at ease with ourselves. Star Creations is a brand that creates products for all those who like to wear garters and chokers.
Harnesses are worn in a simple V shape, but they can also create a bralette shape, complex geometric shapes, or be connected to the choker. At the same time, chokers can be decorated with hearts, hubcaps, and rings. To make harnesses and garters as comfortable as possible, the brand created adjustable products and even designed some elastic products.
Conclusion
And that’s all for Canadian lingerie brands! Did you like one of these brands best?
