Wondering how to organize lingerie? Learn how to sort, store, and enjoy your lingerie with our tips and tricks.
It’s an all-too-common scenario: you search through a messy pile of underwear in your lingerie drawer for a specific pair and you only ended up making a bigger mess. If this sounds familiar, it’s time to organize your undergarments.
Lingerie’s delicate nature warrants the use of specialized lingerie storage. Creating a separate area for your intimates enhances the pleasure of donning beautiful lingerie. Beyond the delightful sensation, organizing your underwear has practical benefits: your exquisite unmentionables will last longer if they are not exposed to harsh light or rough fabrics and zippers on other clothing. Organizing the contents of your lingerie storage can also motivate you to use them more often.
Whether your lingerie collection is small or large, here are some organizing ideas to keep your undergarments tidy and ready to wear.
Prep and Sort
Gather all your undergarments and place them in a clean area, like your bed. Make piles of things to keep and things to throw away. Remove everything that is ripped, damaged, stained, stretched, out-of-date, or does not fit.
When deciding what to keep and what to get rid of, remember that your primary objective is to have a drawer full of lingerie that makes you feel self-assured, comfortable, happy, beautiful, and sexy.
Once you’ve discarded all the lingerie you want to throw away, sort the rest by category: panties, bras, robes, camisoles, slips, corsets, shapewear, and so on. Each category should have its pile so that you can easily do a visual assessment of what you own.
Coordinate your lingerie to add variation. Keep it simple. Set up a stack for your daily undies, sports undergarments, naughty lingerie, and so on. Color coordination is also a smart idea. Special “period panties” can also have their own pile.
Find a Space
Your budget and available space will determine your lingerie storage. You may buy or build a customized lingerie bureau, such as:
Lingerie Chest
This tiny chest of drawers has a lush velvet lining. It’s small enough to fit into almost any room or walk-in closet without needing excessive space modification.
Armoire
Adding an armoire to a room shows a passion and commitment to the world of beautiful, elegant lingerie. This is the spot for storing silky underwear, robes, nightgowns, baby dolls, satin loungewear, and similar items.
Open Closet
Akin to an armoire, this is where you can store your cherished undergarments, but the open design lets you flaunt all your lovely lingerie. This is a common alternative if you don’t want to add a large piece of furniture to your current floor plan.
Drawers
Although not as dreamy or elegant as the others, using drawers is the most basic and cost-effective way to organize your lingerie. Drawers let you fold your undergarments and keep each type of underwear apart.
If you decide to put drawers in your closet, ensure they are only for your lingerie. Keep them separate from your clothes. Use dividers or separators to keep your undergarments more organized. You can buy ready-made inserts or cut your own using cardboard. You can also use plastic boxes as dividers.
Tip: Get yourself a repainted dresser from Etsy and have gorgeous lingerie storage.
Fold or Hang
Technically, the best way to make sure the lingerie lasts is to lay it flat. However, in most cases, hanging lingerie works fine. If you have room, sort out which pieces to fold and which items to hang. Just keep in mind that some fabrics will stretch out because of their own weight over time. Also, make sure that the hangers you use don’t have overly tight clips.
If your closet is too small for you to hang your underthings, tension rods are a great option. Tension rods are simple to set up and take down if you decide they aren’t effective. They are also great if you rent a place with strict renovation policies since they are temporary.
If you choose to hang your bra, make sure the clasp is closed and the straps are evenly distributed on the hanger. For robes, padded hangers are the best. The cushions minimize the aesthetic challenge of hanger marks caused by gravity on a robe. Additionally, you may also hang shapewear, teddies, and slips.
Underwear pieces are better folded than hung. To minimize friction, separate your folded panties by fabric. Corsets are typically folded as well. Fold the two sides together and lay the busk on top.
If you prefer to fold your bras, check that the hooks are closed. The straps should also be tucked into the cups. Fit your bras together to retain the cup shape and avoid breaking the frames or wires.
Maintain and Upkeep
Once you’ve finished organizing your lingerie in a designated area, the next step is to handle your undergarments with care. Proper care and storage of underwear go hand in hand. To make your undies last as long as possible, you should know how to wash them. And once they are dry, you should put them back where they belong.

Smell and Scent
Keep your lingerie storage room smelling fresh by slipping in lavender potpourri sachets or spritzing the area with your favorite fragrance. You may either create your own scented sachets from dried herbs or purchase a packet online. Oiled sachets should be avoided because they can stain your lingerie.
Traveling With Delicates
Pack your undergarments in a lingerie pouch or any fabric-lined bag when traveling. A customized travel lingerie bag can keep your unmentionables together, preventing them from getting accidentally zipped or ripped and enabling you to take your things anywhere without having them on display.
Some lingerie stores sell customized travel pouches for different kinds of underwear. If you can only afford one travel organizer, invest in a bra bag since bras are easily deformed.
Conclusion
Everyday life can be messy, but your lingerie space doesn’t have to. Regardless of the size of your lingerie closet, make sure that you treat it with care. Dust the shelves and drawers regularly. Update and upgrade when necessary. After all, organizing your lingerie is a form of self-care.
